Frequently Asked Questions

Our basic IDC package is 17 days.  This is made up of 13 days of teaching and workshops, and 2 weekends.  We don’t schedule any training for the weekends, because experience tells us that students need some ‘downtime’.

IDC candidates often start the IDC and then realise that they need to work on something that they are weak at (Physics and RDP are common ones here). The weekends give them the opportunity to catch up or practice some more.

Here at Go2similan dive centre we include lunches on training days for all courses.

Once you have completed your IDC and passed your Instructor Exam (IE) you are able to start work almost straight away.

If you have completed our ‘Ready to Work’ program then you will already have completed work experience on the Similan Islands day trip boats, have learned some of the key dive sites and met the dive centre owners.  Simply take your CV round to them with your contact details and let them know you are now ready to start.

The basic IDC package includes:

    • Experienced instructor trainer
    • Access to unique online learning
    • Lunches throughout the IDC
    • Pre IDC theory preparation
    • Assortment of digital files to help with IDC and also your life as instructor
    • Human Factors in Diving seminar
    • Coral Basics seminar
    • Lots of workshops
    • A lifetime of support in your new career
    • EFR Instructor Course
    • Free use of a basic set of equipment during the IDC and IE

PADI Professional Courses are made up of 3 parts:

  1. The cost of the PADI materials (digital crewpack and any required slates)
  2. The cost of the training supplied by the dive centre
  3. PADI registration fees, including Instructor Exam fees

Some dive centres bundle some of these costs together, but at Go2Similan we keep each part separate so you can clearly see what you are paying for.

The PADI registration fees are paid directly to PADI at the end of the course.

We charge the cost of the e-learning materials as a deposit prior to arrival.  You can change your mind and get a full refund of this deposit as long as you have not downloaded or registered the e-learning.  Once you have opened the materials they are yours to keep and cannot be refunded.

The cost of the training is paid on or just prior to arrival.  If you don’t start the course, we are happy to refund you or reschedule for another course.  Once you start the course we don’t offer refunds, but we are happy to reschedule if you have medical or other legitimate reasons why you can’t complete at this time.

Our ‘Ready to Work’ IDC is designed to get you work on the Similan Islands straight after your IDC.  We aim to make you employable (ready to work) and visible to employers.

It includes:

  • Work Experience on Similan Island day boats so you can learn how the boats run
  • Diving the key sites so you know the dive sites before you start work
  • Meeting the dive centre owners so they already know your face and have seen you working (your chance to shine)
  • Updating the dive skills you will need to work here (eg SMB deployment, diving in currents, calling the boat for pick up)
  • Reviewing dive theory and DM pool skills so you are ready for the IDC

We have limited shared and private accommodation above the dive centre.  We offer it on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so if you book early there is more chance of it being available.
